Dewberry uses Correlator3D to create enhanced deliverables by combining lidar data with image-derived surfaces
SimActive Software Supports Advanced Data Fusion for Mapping Projects
SimActive Inc. has announced that Dewberry, a well-established professional services firm, is using its Correlator3D™ software to fuse lidar and imagery data for improved mapping results. By combining lidar-derived elevation with image-based color and surface detail, Dewberry is able to produce high-accuracy deliverables including colorized point clouds, digital surface models, and orthomosaics.
“We like Correlator3D’s ability to merge multiple datasets and create high-quality mapping products quickly,” said Ryan Ligon, Geospatial Technology Manager at Dewberry. “Our projects vary from a few flight lines to wide area mapping and Correlator3D handles it all, making our job much easier.”
Dewberry uses dual sensor systems on its aerial missions, capturing both lidar and imagery in a single flight. This ensures complete coverage across varied landscapes. For example, imagery is used to colorize point clouds in corridor mapping projects, which helps in monitoring vegetation encroachment. In areas near water, Dewberry fuses topobathy lidar with image-derived elevations to generate detailed surface models.
Correlator3D Supports Complex Geospatial Workflows
Correlator3D, developed by Montreal-based SimActive, is a high-performance photogrammetry software that allows users to process data from satellite, manned aircraft, and drone sensors. The software includes tools for aerial triangulation, point cloud generation, and the creation of orthomosaics, digital surface models (DSM), and digital terrain models (DTM). It also supports the extraction of 3D vector features and textured 3D models.
What sets Correlator3D apart is its ability to process large datasets rapidly. The software leverages GPU technology and multi-core CPUs to speed up production, allowing users to generate results in a fraction of the time required by other systems. Its workflow supports a variety of data fusion tasks, including the integration of lidar with photogrammetry—an essential capability for firms like Dewberry that serve both public and private sector clients with diverse mapping needs.
SimActive’s solutions are used globally by leading mapping firms, engineering companies, and government agencies. The company has built a reputation for providing reliable software backed by dedicated customer support.
