DroneUp patented technologies $7 Drone Delivery

Revolutionary Winch System, Custom Battery Packs, and Autonomous Software Propel DroneUp’s Efficient Delivery Model
by DRONELIFE Staff Writer Ian J. McNab
Drone delivery provider DroneUp recently revealed some of the internal, fully patented technologies that help it reach its aggressive $7 dollar-per-delivery price point, including its battery technology, software package, and innovative winch system.

According to the press release, DroneUp’s technology starts with its software solution, Uncrew, designed to transform flight autonomy and streamline drone operations. According to the press release, Uncrew “reduces the cognitive load” on pilots by automating crucial decision-making processes, like return flights or contingency landings.
On top of this, DroneUp highlights its winch technology, which is designed for a long service life (over 40,000 uses) and quick operation, being able to complete a delivery in under 30 seconds. Like the rest of DroneUp’s technology package, the winch is designed with scalability in mind as a cost-effective custom solution to the unique problems drone delivery represents.
“Our revolutionary winch technology is a game-changer for the drone delivery industry,” said John Vernon, CTO of DroneUp. “By reducing delivery time to mere seconds, we’re not only improving operational efficiency but also enhancing safety and public perception. This speed is critical and allows us to complete more deliveries in less time, directly contributing to our goal of achieving $7 drone deliveries. It’s a pivotal step towards making drone delivery a practical, everyday reality for consumers.”

Finally, DroneUp highlights its custom battery pack solution, that uses Amprius SiMaxx™ silicon anode cells (which can charge up to 80% in under 6 minutes) combined with an airflow-optimized layout to provide extended flight times and easy mission readiness.
“Our next-generation battery pack design represents a significant leap forward in drone power systems,” said Vernon. “By creating a custom configuration that maximizes the potential of Amprius’ silicon anode cells, we’ve developed a battery solution that not only extends flight times but also enhances overall drone performance and reliability. This innovation is key to making long-distance drone deliveries a practical reality.”
DroneUp has been making waves in the delivery space recently, announcing that it had achieved over 500 deliveries in a day back in August, as well as focusing their existing partnership with Walmart to bring their Ecosystem to the Arkansas retail giant’s operations to the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex region (at the expense of hubs in Arizona, Utah, and Florida). Both stories are available on DroneLife.
