New Certifications Highlight NDAA Compliance and Cybersecurity Standards for Secure Drone Operations
Inspired Flight has announced that its IF1200A and IF800 Tomcat drones have received Green UAS certification from the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). These certifications ensure that the platforms meet National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) compliance and cybersecurity requirements. Additionally, the IF1200A and IF800 Tomcat are certified under the Blue UAS framework, meeting the robust security and operational standards set by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) for Department of Defense (DoD) missions.
Green UAS Certification: Expanding Procurement Options
The Green UAS certification program, managed by AUVSI, evaluates product and device security, including all components and subcomponents. It also incorporates continual monitoring of supply chain risks. The initiative aims to provide a reliable pathway for non-defense agencies and commercial sectors to adopt secure, NDAA-compliant drone technology.
AUVSI Director of Trusted Programs, Casie Ocaña, emphasized the value of the program, saying:
*”Green UAS certification ensures that non-DOD federal, state, and local agencies and other security-sensitive technology users can continue to access secure, NDAA-compliant drone technology. These additions maintain robust procurement options open while giving agencies the confidence to deploy drones for critical missions. AUVSI and the secure drone industry is committed to meeting the highest standards of supply chain- and cyber-security.” *
The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), which created the Blue UAS framework, supports AUVSI’s Green UAS initiative. David Michelson, Director of DIU’s Autonomy Portfolio, explained the alignment between the two programs:
“AUVSI’s Green UAS initiative provides certainty as to NDAA compliance and a cyber security standard. … DIU works closely with AUVSI, whose Green UAS certification builds upon Blue UAS to serve the commercial and non-defense drone industry. I am enthusiastic to see an industry led program like Green UAS that can give the same level of trust to the commercial sector.”
Inspired Flight’s Commitment to Secure Drone Solutions
The dual certifications position Inspired Flight’s IF1200A and IF800 Tomcat as secure and versatile platforms for critical operations. From public safety and infrastructure inspection to defense missions, these drones meet the highest operational and security standards.
Rick Stollmeyer, CEO of Inspired Flight, expressed the company’s commitment to security and compliance: “Inspired Flight is pleased to embrace AUVSI’s Green UAS program, which provides an important certification of NDAA compliance and security.”
The recognition comes at a time when government agencies and commercial operators are increasingly prioritizing secure, American-made drone solutions. By achieving both Green UAS and Blue UAS certifications, Inspired Flight strengthens its role as a trusted provider for sensitive and mission-critical operations.
Background: AUVSI’s Green UAS Initiative
The Green UAS certification program serves as an industry-led complement to DIU’s Blue UAS framework. While Blue UAS focuses on DoD-specific requirements, Green UAS opens procurement options for non-defense applications, including public safety, mapping, and infrastructure monitoring. This ensures that government agencies and commercial users have access to secure drone technologies.
Alongside Inspired Flight’s IF1200A and IF800 Tomcat, other platforms receiving Green UAS certification include Ascent AeroSystems’ Spirit and AgEagle’s eBee TAC.
Supporting Mission-Critical Operations
AUVSI’s Green UAS certification reflects a broader effort to enhance drone security across federal, state, and local agencies, as well as private industries. By ensuring NDAA compliance and strong cybersecurity standards, the program builds trust and confidence for drone operators conducting sensitive missions.
