Aerospace company Phenix Solutions has recently been awarded a Phase II contract by the United States Air Force for Agile Manufacturing of the Ultra 2XL Heavy Lift VTOL Aircraft. This significant milestone marks a collaboration between Phenix Solutions and The Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate to advance the development and deployment of cutting-edge vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
The Phase II contract strategically emphasizes the implementation of streamlined procurement, accounting, and production processes and procedures. Key objectives include the establishment of a state-of-the-art production facility, aimed at validating manufacturing strategies to meet the anticipated demand for the Ultra 2XL on a large scale.

Brian Riese, President and CEO of Phenix Solutions, said, “I am pleased to announce the continuation of our partnership with the USAF on the Phase II contract for Agile Manufacturing. We’ve built the production capability from the ground up, and this collaboration will allow us to rapidly scale the manufacturing process, resulting in reduced costs and faster lead times, all while maintaining high levels of quality in every Ultra 2XL produced.”
In parallel with the Phase II effort, Phenix Solutions is also collaborating with the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership (OMEP) team. The focus of this collaboration is on implementing enhanced Factory of the Future technologies on the shop floor. Innovative approaches to displaying and distributing work instructions, tools, and process control are being explored to maximize efficiency. The company views Agile Manufacturing as an enterprise-wide holistic action plan for sustaining the production of the Ultra 2XL Aircraft for years to come.
The collaboration with OMEP is part of Phenix Solutions’ commitment to leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies to enhance manufacturing processes. By aligning with industry best practices, Phenix aims to optimize efficiency and deliver high-quality products to meet the growing demand for the Ultra 2XL Heavy Lift VTOL Aircraft.
